My New Outside Blog

This Photo COULD Save Your Life!

Make no mistake about it, this photo COULD save your life! If you're visiting south central Louisiana, don't try to beat the heat by taking a dip in the lagoon at the Tourist Information Center in Vinton, Louisiana. You could become a snack for one of our native residents, the Alligator mississippiensis.

Yes, it's that special day known as 'Speechless Sunday' - the day of the week on ActiveRain that is often categorized (and perhaps best known for) a day in which blogs with limited scope (and typically with no inherent value other than to enlighten or entertain viewers) are posted and shared with the community.

I confess I've succumbed to posting my very own 'Cajun Version' although in my defense, this photo is being offered due to its unusual nature and as a public service message. Afterall, we want your visit to be both pleasant and without injury!

No Swimming With The Alligators In Acadiana or South Central Louisiana!

This IS an actual (and recent) photo taken at the Louisiana Tourist Information Center, 6212 W. I-10, Vinton, LA 70668 (337) 589-7774. http://www.crt.state.la.us/

If you're planning a visit to south central Louisiana, i List For Less Realty can provide information on local events and attractions or details on the current real estate market. Let us know how we can be of assistance. So come and enjoy a memorable visit to Louisiana. Just be safe and avoid swimming with the gators!

we have those signs here in Calcasieu Parish and on the way to Cameron also, now what were you doing in my neck of the woods boy???  Vinton is my territory :)

Lori -Me too! I've always interpret the sign as "Don't feed the gators!"

Linda - In this lagoon it is! As many times as I've stopped here for a break, I've never recalled seeing anyone venture into the water.

Marilyn -I know I was supposed to get permission and a "hall pass" - LOL - I was on my way to my daughter's graduation.

Really interesting the kinds of signs you see all over the country. We see the gator signs all over Florida.

When I moved to California, driving on the interstate, I saw a sign that I couldn't figure out at first.

Posted by Pacita Dimacali, Alameda/Contra Costa Counties CA (Alain Pinel) over 6 years ago

Pacita - Wow! That's an interesting one.

Wallace --- maybe that sign could be titled "This sign could save THEIR lives". This is about illegal immigrants running across highways, etc.

Pacita - I was trying to imagine the meaning and thought it had to do with folks running across a road to access a beach.
