The negative economic impact this moratorium is causing sure seems like a double whammy, doesn't it?

That said, I suspect when it's all tallied up, the damages and negative economic impact caused by the spill itself will far exceed those of the moratorium. Based on that reasoning, IMHO, I think it's MUCH more important that we ensure appropriate compensatory measures are in place, to ensure this never happens again, BEFORE we re-start drilling in the Gulf.

Yes it does Dan.

I concur that we need to ensure measures are in place to prevent another catastrophe of this magnitude. From the reports I've read, BP cut corners attributing to this terrible accident. An investigation that followed indicated that of the 30 or so remaining deep water wells, all but two (2) were in full compliance. The report suggested these 2 rigs that were the exception had minor infractions. No further details were released however.
